Dr Murray studied metallurgy in London University, subsequently joining the International Wrought Copper Council, serving as its Secretary General from 1980 to 1984.  He worked in commodities analysis for the next fifteen years in base then precious metals, including 10 years as Chief Executive of GFMS.  Since October, 1999, he has been Chief Executive of the London Bullion Market Association. In his spare time, he makes furniture, plays the bagpipes and is an enthusiastic Scottish Country dancer.
